Elkhart is an ideal hub to export RVs all over the country. It’s smack dab in the heart of the Rust Belt, a region once famed for its plentiful oil, steel and American manufacturing. And it’s sequestered in Amish country, where the labor is cheap and reliable. RV production started here in the 1930s and took off in the 1960s, once the Baby Boomer generation grew up and found money. In fact, you’ll find that many of today’s most iconic RV brands got their start in the 1960s.
